About The Position

The MLT III performs technical laboratory testing within Chemistry and Hematology in a high-volume, team-based hospital laboratory. Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. Barnes-Jewish Hospital's staff is composed of full-time academic faculty and community physicians of Washington University School of Medicine, supported by a house staff of residents, interns, fellows and other medical professionals. Role Purpose Performs specimen processing and routine / complex testing on blood and other specimens which requires a knowledge and understanding of quality control, basic instrument maintenance, and procedure methodologies and reference ranges. Maintains appropriate documentation of all activities as required. Demonstrates good laboratory practice May also coordinate the activities of the lab.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology required
  • ASCP/AMT certification preferred (or eligible)
  • Chemistry and/or Hematology experience preferred
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Associate's Degree - Physical/Life Science/related
  • 2-5 years
  • MLT-ASCP or equiv

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and moderate complexity testing
  • Maintain instrumentation and quality control standards
  • Support turnaround time expectations
  • Collaborate with bench partners in a team-based workflow
  • Reports and maintains record of patient test results through the laboratory computer system accurately, meeting published turn around times for routine testing and stats.
  • Documents patient test management problems/concerns on quality documents and initiates corrective action.
  • Operates all instrumentation in assigned areas to deliver precise, timely, and accurate laboratory results. Performs laboratory procedures for specimen collection, processing, test analysis.
  • Performs quality controls for all equipment and troubleshoots malfunctioning instrumentation as necessary. Monitors quality control performance and corrects any problems and or reports any problems to the appropriate department. Assesses technical and or instrument problems, including quality control and abnormal findings, evaluate possible solutions and chooses an appropriate course of action to solve the problem.
  • Trains new personnel in methods, procedures and use of equipment and instruments specific to the assigned area.
