About The Position

The Student Worker provides accurate and timely testing and results to requesting physicians and other healthcare professionals for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease under the guidance and supervision of a Medical Technologist. The Student Worker should consistently utilize excellent customer service skills to both internal and external customers at all times. Requirements

  • Currently enrolled and in the 3rd year of an accredited Bachelor Degree Program in Clinical Laboratory Science Program or Currently enrolled in Master's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science
  • Rotating weekends as required
  • Holiday scheduling as required
  • On call availability, approximating 3-4 shifts per month, for emergency coverage on any shift
  • Physical - Lifting 20-50 lbs.
  • Activities: Prolonged standing, Prolonged sitting, Repetitive motion, Other: Exposure to biohazards and potentially infectious body fluids
  • Mental/Sensory: Strong recall, Reasoning, Problem solving, Hearing, Speak clearly, Write legibly, Reading, Logical thinking
  • Emotional: Fast pace environment, Steady pace, Able to handle multiple priorities, Frequent and intense customer interactions, Noisy environment, Able to adapt to frequent change

Nice To Haves

  • Certified as a Medical Laboratory Technician by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (preferred)
  • Previous clinical laboratory experience
  • Associate's Degree in Clinical/Medical Lab Science Program

Responsibilities

  • Performance of procedures, evaluation and reporting of results as outlined in the manual of standard operating procedures.
  • Notification of panic values to ordering physicians.
  • Customer service oriented communications.
  • With supervision participate in teaching new employees, students, residents, etc. in areas that competency is demonstrated.
  • Must complete required number of continuing education hours per year.
