This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. As a Senior Project Engineer, you will report to the MK2 Program Operations Director and drive operational excellence and velocity for the MK2 team. You will act support the Operations Director to drive execution of various initiatives across the MK2 vehicle team. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and attention towards safe and reliable spaceflight.

Requirements

  • 5+ years system development/integration experience or project management experience - preferably with aerospace hardware or complex technical systems, including some aspect of product development risk management
  • Familiar with structured risk management plans & risk monitoring
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally with staff at all levels of the organization, external stakeholders, and customers
  • Excellent technical writing and presentation skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • B.S./B.A. degree in engineering or other technical field

  • Experience with human spaceflight systems and human-rating requirements
  • Risk management experience in safety-critical industries
  • Experience with Confluence & JIRA
  • Experience with Tableau or Microsoft BI
  • PMP Certification
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification

  • Demonstrated success driving resolution of complex, cross-functional issues

Responsibilities

  • Lead and facilitate program decision and risk review boards for human spaceflight systems, driving clear outcomes and accountability while ensuring alignment with program objectives
  • Proactively identify, track, and drive resolution of risks across the human lunar landing program, not merely documenting issues but actively working with teams to implement solutions
  • Communicate and support the execution of the vision, strategic goals, priorities, and performance metrics across the organization
  • Work closely with program management, engineering, supply chain, and production teams to integrate product development efforts and remove obstacles to progress
  • Collaborate with Integrated Product Team leadership and external manufacturing partners to drive product lifecycle stages to mature production
  • Develop and implement robust risk management strategies for human-rated systems, including characterizing risks/opportunities, creating mitigation plans, and actively monitoring outcomes
  • Coach and train team members on effective use of risk management processes and tools, fostering a culture of proactive risk identification
  • Create comprehensive reports on program risks with actionable insights for leadership
  • Drive decision velocity by establishing clear frameworks, gathering necessary information, and facilitating timely resolution of open items
  • Provide and implement recommendations to improve risk tracking tools, metrics, and reports - measuring both risk management performance and process effectiveness
  • Identify cross-functional dependencies and work with teams to establish clear ownership and accountability for resolution
