About The Position

The Mission Systems Operation Contract (MSOC) has an excellent opportunity for a Systems Engineer (SE) to facilitate design changes to NASA Johnson Space Center’s Mission Systems, which include the Mission Control Center (MCC), Mission Training Center (MTC) and the Space Vehicle Mockup Facility (SVMF), specifically focused on Facility Management System (FMS) projects. Our ideal FMS Systems Engineer candidate will have a strong drive to apply and continually update his/her skill base. The applicant will work in a dynamic team environment and will be responsible for working with the NASA customer, users, and commercial and international partners to capture and negotiate requirements, user stories and operations concepts and then drive those change requests through the systems engineering lifecycle. The applicant will work closely with MSOC Platform and Software Engineers, System Testers, and Project Engineers to facilitate changes across all parts of these complex systems. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, are required for customer interactions. Strong initiative, teamwork and problem-solving skills are also required.

Requirements

  • Requires BS in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or similar technical degree plus 0 – 10 years of related experience.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision and professionally represent the MSOC organization.
  • Highly motivated individual willing to learn and apply new concepts, tools, and software
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, especially with other organizations
  • Good problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting

Nice To Haves

  • Experience across various areas of the systems engineering lifecycle including requirements analysis, design, and documentation
  • Understanding of human spaceflight requirements
  • Leadership skills
  • Knowledge of the Mission Control Center sub-systems
  • Experience with ServiceNow feature sets that are used in MSOC facilities, including Activity Management.
  • Experience with ServiceNow feature sets that are used by MSOC personnel for change management and incident report management.
  • Experience with agile development practices using Agility
  • Experience with IT Asset Management (ITAM)
  • Knowledge of IT systems (hardware, software, networks), applications and the people who use them

Responsibilities

  • Work with the customer, users, and engineers to effectively analyze user requirements, user stories, and operations concepts.
  • Perform high level requirement assessments and facilitate the detailed assessments performed by the MSOC technical organizations.
  • Develop and maintain schedules for work components.
  • Create and/or update all documentation for design and change instruments.
  • Perform post data processing, post data reduction, and data mining.
  • Perform analysis, assessments, trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
  • Provide Systems Engineering support to the MSOC implementation organizations.
  • Communicate inward to the MSOC organization and outward to customer contacts.
  • Work effectively in a team setting to collaborate ideas.
  • Negotiate with and coordinate activities of vendors who supply FMS products and services.
  • Support the infusion of new technologies and products in Facility Management Systems.
