About the position

This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Air and Marine Operations, Hammond, LA. In this Mission Support Specialist position, you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals assisting in research and various entry-level duties related to the mission support functions that support the mission of CBP. This position starts at a salary of $40,332.00 (GS-5, Step 1) to $52,426.00 (GS-5, Step 10) with promotion potential to $79,443 (GS-9 Step 10).

Responsibilities

  • Providing assistance to higher graded staff to manage and administer premium pay, overtime and leave entitlements.
  • Assisting employees with travel voucher review and submission, and verifying accuracy.
  • Assisting the Local Property Officer, taking inventory, and ensuring timely processing of requirements.
  • Assisting employees with requests for updated badges and credentials.
  • Performing limited independent work pertaining to security and building issues.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this position.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with Selective Service.
  • Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years.
  • You may be required to pass a background investigation.
  • CBP follows the DHS Drug-Free Workplace Plan for drug testing procedures.

Nice-to-haves

  • A Bachelor's degree or a full 4-year course of study in any field leading to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university may substitute for the experience required at this level.
