About The Position

The Mission Operations Sustainment Systems Engineer at BAE Systems is responsible for supporting the operations and maintenance of spacecraft and their payloads for various customers, including commercial, DoD, and NASA. This role involves engaging in the lifecycle of spacecraft operations, from requirements and design to on-orbit testing and anomaly support. The engineer will work within a diverse team, contributing to mission readiness and ensuring the health and safety of spacecraft systems.

Requirements

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 2 or more years related experience.
  • A current, active TS/SCI security clearance is required.
  • Experience in on-console satellite operations, spacecraft commissioning, spacecraft design, mission management, command and control, mission data processing, ground systems, and mission integration activities.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to interface with technicians, peers, and management.
  • Ability to contribute to the success of small teams through excellent teamwork.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing or maintaining mission operations products such as command execution scripts and operator training material.
  • Experience in software engineering, hardware engineering, integration, test engineering, quality engineering, or configuration/data management.
  • Knowledge of cloud development environments and requirements management tools such as DOORS.
  • Familiarity with Atlassian Tools such as Confluence and Jira.

Responsibilities

  • Perform telemetry trending, mission performance analysis, calibration, and maintenance of the satellite and ground system.
  • Participate in on-orbit operations, assess satellite and ground system state of health, and assist with anomaly support.
  • Develop and/or update mission operations products and tools based on discrepancy reports, change requests, and/or lessons learned.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop and maintain operational command products, training material, and tools for operations.
  • Support integration and testing of new capabilities and/or product releases for the satellite and/or ground system.
  • Prepare and/or present technical content to peers/management/customers.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule, which may include periodic support for night, weekend, or on-call shifts.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department and the company.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.
