About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Mission Command Strategic Leadership Support Specialist to support the U.S. Army War College (USAWC) Center for Strategic Leadership (CSL). This position is on-site at the U.S. Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania. The USAWC supports the U.S. Army’s Strategic Mission Command efforts by incorporating strategic mission command into curriculum, strategic thought, discussion, and advancement of knowledge. The USAWC will engage strategic leaders to increase understanding of the role of mission command in support of the National Security Strategy, the U.S. Army’s core competencies, the U.S. Army's Title 10 responsibilities, and strategic leadership. As the Mission Command Strategic Leadership Support Specialist you will focus on increasing Mission Command expertise of senior Army leaders (Colonels and General Officers), including teaching a Mission Command elective and supporting associated projects, research, and events.

Requirements

  • Authorization to work in the permanently work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
  • An active Secret level Clearance.
  • A PhD from an accredited graduate degree granting institution in military or organizational issues or a national security related discipline.
  • More than three (3) years of experience as a senior leader (O-6 or above or equivalent).
  • Experience in both leadership and staff roles, as well as having served as a commander at the O-5 level or above (or equivalent).
  • More than two (2) years of experience at a Senior-Level College (or equivalent) developing and teaching graduate-level courses.
  • Basic computer literacy including proficiency in basic computer skills to include, but not limited to, Microsoft Office, basic writing and editing skills, search/create folders, and computer terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Complete the following actions supporting two (2) Strategic Mission Command or Strategic Issues Electives (total of sixty (60) contact hours).
  • Complete a Course Synopsis for each course no later than 1 October each year.
  • Complete Course Syllabus for each course no later than sixty (60) calendar days prior to the course start date.
  • Propose applicable topics for inclusion in each course.
  • Recommend learning outcomes for each lesson and readings that support these objectives (50 to 100 total pages per lesson).
  • Create outlines of instruction for each course.
  • Invite approved guest speakers no later than thirty (30) calendar days prior to the course start dates.
  • Complete required documentation to include: Distinguished visitor reports; Request for speaker fees, honorarium, and travel pay.
  • Develop course modules and presentation materials for each course.
  • Promote the course as appropriate; attend the Elective Fair.
  • Enter course information in learning management system(s) no later than fourteen (14) calendar days prior to each course start date.
  • Compile a list of students and inform students of schedule and requirements for each course and lesson.
  • Present lessons, in person or virtually, and facilitate student dialogue.
  • Grade student participation, oral presentations, and writing assignments for each course.
  • Enter student completion information into learning management system(s) no later than fourteen (14) calendar days after each course completion date.
  • Complete post-course reports no later than thirty (30) calendar days after each course completion date.
  • Develop academic materials, teach, and provide administrative support for USAWC sponsored courses and lessons.
  • Complete the following actions for up to one hundred (100) contact hours (e.g., Core Lessons; Elective Lessons; DDE Graduate Seminar; Theater Army Staff Course, Special Programs; Certificate Programs; General Officer education; and noon time lectures).
  • Propose applicable topics for inclusion in lessons.
  • Recommend learning outcomes for each lesson; recommend readings, video, or audio recordings that support learning outcomes for each lesson (no more than 2 hours of video/audio and/or 50 to 100 pages per lesson).
  • Create outlines of instruction.
  • Develop lesson modules and presentation materials.
  • Present lessons, in person or virtually, answer questions, and facilitate student dialogue.
  • Attend up to four (4) approved symposia (conferences, workshops, or wargames) focused on Strategic Mission Command, Strategic Leadership, and other strategic leader issues, sponsored by organizations outside the USAWC to integrate Mission Command principles into course material.
  • Propose event participation with rationale showing support for the USAWC mission; obtain concurrence from USAWC on attendance not later than fourteen (14) calendar days prior to the event.
  • Attend, present, or facilitate group discussions.
  • Within seven (7) calendar days of returning, submit post-symposium report and required documentation.
  • Assist in providing intellectual and administrative support for up to two (2) projects, programs, or events supporting USAWC goals, missions, and vision.
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise.
  • Provide administrative support as needed.
  • Attend meetings at Carlisle Barracks or other locations.
  • Assist in developing plans, programs, policies, strategies, or other documentation.
  • Assist in event execution.
  • Present, lead, or facilitate group discussions.
  • Submit post-event report: An initial report is due no later than seven (7) calendar days after the event and the final report is due no later than thirty (30) calendar days after the event.
  • Attend four (4) USAWC faculty development, facilitator, and/or learning management system training sessions.
