About The Position

PeopleTec is currently seeking a Missile Safety Engineer to support our Huntsville, AL location. The Advanced Fires Project Office (AFPO) is seeking a proactive and technically grounded Missile Safety Engineer to support the rapid development, prototyping, integration, and transition of advanced missile and fires capabilities. AFPO operates with small, agile teams that quickly mature promising technologies into operationally relevant solutions for the Warfighter. The Missile Safety Engineer provides system and operational safety expertise across missile system design, integration, testing, transportability, storage and fielding. This role focuses on identifying hazards early, supporting risk-informed design decisions, and ensuring safety considerations are incorporated into program execution while maintaining rapid development timelines. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a fast-paced acquisition environment, collaborating with multidisciplinary government and prime contractor teams, and applying sound safety principles to evolving missile technologies and concepts.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in missile, munitions, weapon systems, or system safety.
  • Experience performing hazard analyses and risk assessments for complex systems.
  • Familiarity with DoW system safety standards and practices (e.g., MIL-STD-882 or similar frameworks).
  • Experience supporting live-fire test or fielding activities.
  • Ability to balance safety rigor and tailoring with rapid development timelines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work across technical and operational teams.
  • Must have a current driver's license.
  • Travel: 20%
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Active U.S. DoD Secret clearance is required to perform this work.
  • Candidates are required to have a Secret clearance upon hire, and the ability to maintain a Secret clearance throughout their employment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in e ngineering, safety engineering, systems engineering, or related technical discipline.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with missile propulsion, energetics, autonomous vehicles, or launch systems.
  • Familiarity with flight termination system range requirements, development, and certification.
  • Familiarity with Army materiel release process
  • Familiarity with Army or DoW munitions safety boards and approval processes.
  • Experience working with test ranges and operational units.
  • Master’s degree in a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as system safety lead for a system or family of systems
  • Define and tailor safety requirements to meet program objectives including development of contract scope
  • Lead a System Safety Working Group (SSWG) to identify, assess, and track hazards associated with missile systems, subsystems, and support equipment.
  • Perform and support hazard analyses related to propulsion, energetics, launch systems, guidance, and integration.
  • Evaluate missile system designs and concepts for safety implications and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Participate in design and technical reviews to ensure safety considerations are addressed.
  • Advise program leadership on safety risks, trade-offs, and mitigation options.
  • Support planning and execution of developmental and operational tests from a safety perspective.
  • Review test plans, procedures, and concepts of operation for safety considerations.
  • Coordinate with test ranges and safety authorities to support safe execution of events.
  • Tailor and implement safety requirements into program planning and contracts ensuring compliance with range and safety authorities.
  • Prepare risk acceptance package including required safety artifacts and support safety releases.
  • Assist in mishap reporting, investigation support, and corrective action tracking when required.
  • Collaborate with engineers, program managers, and operators to integrate safety into program activities.
