About The Position

We are seeking a hardworking engineer/mathematician (or equivalent background) to help us develop the next generation of solutions to our nation's most challenging air and missile defense problems. As the threats to our defenses grow, we need creative thinkers and leaders that will push the boundaries of capability to ensure we stay ahead of these threats by thinking outside the box, taking risks, and collaborating across a team of engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, or equivalent degree.
  • At least 1+ years of experience in a professional engineering setting with Department of Defense focus.
  • Proficiency using MATLAB to conduct modeling and simulation, perform analysis, and create visualizations in a professional setting.
  • Ability to excel in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Effective communicator with excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Secret security clearance by start date and ultimately obtain a Top Secret level security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Specific domain knowledge of Missile Defense Agency, Navy, Army, or Space Force systems, sensors, battle managers, and kinetic and non-kinetic capabilities.
  • Proven experience in leading complex, multi-disciplinary analyses.
  • Proficiency using version control software to develop MATLAB simulations in a team environment.
  • Proficiency using MATLAB to develop event-driven simulations using object-oriented programming capabilities.
  • A Top Secret or higher clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Contributing to the development and assessment of Missile Defense systems.
  • Modeling, analyzing, and leading assessments of fielded systems and finding opportunities for improvement.
  • Proposing and developing innovative concepts/algorithms to improve capabilities.
  • Conducting analysis to assess potential future systems performance.
  • Developing presentations to effectively communicate technical recommendations to APL leadership, government sponsors, and the engineering community.
  • Contributing to a dynamic group culture to uphold core values through participation in collaborative teams and activities.
