Individual works under the direction of and reports to their Detailing Supervisor. The function of this position is to perform detailing of miscellaneous and specialty metals using 3D modeling software. The effectiveness of performance on this job is evaluated by the Detailing Manager.

  • Perform 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation based on project design documents.
  • Accept personal responsibility for maintaining detailing submittal dates and is committed to always working with a sense of urgency.
  • Accept personal responsibility for the quality and consistency of their modeling and drawing work.
  • Excel in the ability to work both independently and within a team with other Detailers.
  • Understand and implement all aspects of the Detailing Standards Manual.
  • Maintains their own working set of current reference design documents.
  • Recognize and communicate errors, discrepancies, and omissions of design information to the Project Manager.
  • Understand and implement project connection designs provided within the design documents, by the Engineering Department, or 3rd party connection design engineer.
  • Works with the Detailing Supervisor to identify and document project design changes.
  • Works with the project Checker(s) and Detailing Supervisor to make corrections to their model and/or drawings.
  • Assist the Detailing Supervisor in the development of Detailing Trainees.
  • Perform other duties as required by management.
  • Minimum 2-year associate degree.
  • 4-year bachelor's degree in construction, engineering or applied engineering studies preferred.
  • Some experience in the construction or engineering industry through work, possibly internships or part time.
  • High level competency in Bluebeam, PDF's, Microsoft Project, Excel and Word, and common computer skills.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Experience with geometry mathematics, CAD and 3D modeling experience.
  • Background and adequate training to know the complete function of a detailing department's operation in a miscellaneous & specialty metals fabrication shop.
  • Adequate knowledge of steel shop fabricating procedures and practices and structural steel erection requirements to provide detail drawings to conform to these.
  • General understanding of construction practices and structural steel erection requirements and to work to schedules provided by the Detailing Manager.
  • Adequate knowledge of OSHA, AISC, ASTM and AWS specifications and shall have the ability to understand, interpret and apply all required and applicable specifications.
  • Working understanding of all software products used within the detailing department.
  • Hands-on experience and mentorship from industry professionals.
