Generally, undergraduate students selected for the program have completed their sophomore year. Summer internships are typically 11 weeks in length but can vary. This role will require daily monitoring of the mining operation(s), some data entry and in field project execution. The intern in this position will be expected to take office discussions and enact them in the field. EH&S, Engineering and operations will all be included in this internship opportunity. Community outreach as well as helping organize community related projects. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers, technicians, and site supervisors to support daily operations, contribute to ongoing projects, and gain exposure to real-world mining challenges.

Requirements

  • Working toward bachelor’s degree in related field to Mining Engineering
  • Advanced Computer Skills: Ability to perform most complex computer tasks and operate various computer programs, (Microsoft office suite, etc.)
  • Full Professional Proficiency: Ability to speak, read, and write fluently and accurately on all levels pertinent to professional needs.
  • High Reasoning: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where there is only limited standardization. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions that may be provided in various forms.
  • Ability to effectively present information to various people as the job requires.
  • Ability to work independently and/or part of a team.
  • Ability to display original thinking and creativity.
  • Ability to hold oneself in a professional manner.
  • Must have the ability to climb multiple flights of stairs, work at various heights above the ground, stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, twist, lift, climb, push and pull to evaluate equipment in a production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Mining operation with day to day projects
  • Active learning of the operations to be discussed weekly with supervisor(s)
  • Data entry and analysis for operational improvements
  • OE/Lean
  • Understands and/or actively participates in the implementation of sustainable improvement processes, such as 5S, Kaizen, Daily Management Control, Standard Work and Problem Solving.
