About The Position

A millwright is primarily responsible for assembly or installation, disassembly, repairing, aligning, and reassembling specialty machinery, heavy machinery, or equipment. The millwright will also assist with equipment and machinery relocation; and some trouble-shooting of mechanical issues or fabrication of necessary tools / blocks / anchor points, etc.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years Millwright experience or comparable field experience in the construction service industry.
  • Valid Driver’s License or ability to attain.
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
  • Use effective interpersonal skills to maintain positive environment and relationships.
  • Good understanding of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, and correct grammatical structure.
  • Be approachable, open-minded, and possess a strong sense of responsibility; passionate about work.

Nice To Haves

  • Higher education preferred for advanced Millwright positions.
  • Three to five years of millwright or directly relatable experience. Additional years’ experience preferred for advanced Millwright positions.
  • Ability to supervise the work of others and manage their time efficiently.
  • Knowledge of employee life-cycle processes including hiring/firing, and employee relations or employment changes.
  • Advanced use of, or knowledge in jack skating, leveling tools, dollies, etc.
  • Able to instruct, guide, and/or mentor others in safety protocol and standard rigging practices.

Responsibilities

  • Installs and maintains machinery and equipment using hoists, lift trucks, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Insert shims, adjust tension on nuts and bolts; position parts using hand tools and measuring instruments, to set specified clearances between moving and stationary parts.
  • Align machines and equipment, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, levels, lasers, and plumb bobs.
  • Level / establish centerline, using straightedge, levels, and transit.
  • Shrink-fit bushings, sleeves, rings, liners, gears, and wheels to specified items, using portable gas heating equipment.
  • Dismantle machinery and equipment for shipment to installation site, usually performing installation and maintenance work as part of team.
  • Construct foundation for machines, using hand tools and building materials such as wood, cement, grout and / or steel.
  • Replace defective parts of machine or adjust clearances and alignment of moving parts, adjust equipment to ensure optimal performance and replace worn, damaged, or defective mechanical parts.
  • Ensure assigned work is understood prior to commencing. Use Pre-Task Plans as required.
  • Comply with standards and procedures of MEI’s Health and Safety Manual and Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.
  • Complete housekeeping duties in assigned area or project area daily and/or when required.
  • Complete assigned work within given timeframe and according to specifications.
  • Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads, in order to ensure safety of workers and materials.
  • Test rigging to ensure safety and reliability.
  • Attach loads to rigging to provide support or prepare them for moving, using hand and power tools.
  • Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weights and sizes, facilities, and work schedules.
  • Control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces, using chain falls, gin poles, gallows frames, and other equipment.
  • Tilt, dip, and turn suspended loads to maneuver over, under, and/or around obstacles, using multi-point suspension techniques.
  • Install ground rigging for yarding lines, attaching chokers to logs and then to the lines.
  • Align, level, and anchor machinery.
  • Fabricate, set up, and repair rigging, supporting structures, hoists, and pulling gear, using hand and power tools.
  • Manipulate rigging lines, hoists, and pulling gear to move or support materials such as heavy equipment, ships, or theatrical sets.
  • Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, using bolts and clamps.
  • Clean and prepare equipment after use; return equipment after use.
  • Be certified to operate, maneuver, navigate, or drive vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts, scissor lifts, skates / jacks, etc. or passenger vehicles.
  • Use either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes.
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
