About The Position

The Millwright is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial machinery and mechanical equipment used in scrap metal processing operations. This role ensures equipment operates safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime by performing preventative maintenance, repairs, and mechanical adjustments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be safety minded and understand and comply with all safety rules and regulations.
  • Must have working knowledge of safe mechanical maintenance and repair procedures.
  • Minimum of two years of millwright, industrial mechanic, or mechanical maintenance experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems including conveyors, hydraulics, pneumatics, and rotating equipment.
  • Ability to use a wide variety of hand tools, power tools, and specialized mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Must be organized and able to maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in awkward positions to complete mechanical repairs.
  • Must be able to work overhead, climb ladders, kneel, crouch, and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability and willingness to work in all weather conditions including rain, snow, cold, and heat.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and documentation, with a commitment to meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely using appropriate mediums (for example, face-to-face, e-mail, and presentations), listen effectively, demonstrate understanding, and clarify meaning for others.

  • Visual acuity is needed for computer utilization and operational visits.
  • Be able to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects of fifty pounds or more.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair industrial machinery and mechanical equipment, including conveyors, shredders, motors, gearboxes, bearings, pumps, and hydraulics.
  • Use various small and large hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments required for mechanical maintenance and repair.
  • Diagnose mechanical failures and determine appropriate corrective actions.
  • Read and interpret schematics, manuals, and technical drawings to assist with installation and repair tasks.
  • Perform preventative maintenance to reduce equipment downtime and extend machinery life.
  • Assist with equipment alignment, leveling, and fitting of mechanical components.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, inspections, and parts usage.
  • Communicate equipment issues and repair needs to the Yard Manager
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area by removing tools, debris, and hazards to ensure a safe and orderly workplace.
  • Attend all scheduled training sessions and meetings.
  • Adhere to operating, environmental, and health and safety protocols.
  • Follow instructions from Management.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
