About The Position

Humboldt Sawmill Company, LLC (HSC) is seeking an experienced Millwright to join their team based in Scotia, CA! This is a non-exempt position at an hourly rate of $34.00-$38.65 depending on the level of experience. We offer full benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance and 401K match. The Mendocino Companies (Mendocino Forest Products Company, Mendocino Redwood Company, Humboldt Redwood Company, Humboldt Sawmill Company, and Allweather Wood) own nearly 450,000 acres of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C031337) certificated redwood and Douglas-fir timberland, constitute the largest waterborne wood treater in the Western USA, and is the largest producer of redwood lumber in the world. Collectively providing 950 employees and their families with excellent wages and benefits in communities throughout the Western USA. Additionally, the Mendocino Companies own and operate a 25-megaWatt biomass cogeneration power plant and wood pellet plant. The Power Plant Millwright is responsible for the independent maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical systems and equipment in the power plant. This role requires substantial experience and expertise in power plant operations. Requirements

  • One year certificate from college or technical school preferred
  • Or minimum two years’ related experience.
  • Or two years’ technical craft training.
  • Or equivalent combination equaling 1,500 hours on the job training and 50 hours of classroom time.
  • Basic Algebra and Geometry
  • Licensed Forklift Operator/ Certified Man-Lift Operator desired
  • Meets the minimum tool requirements
  • Demonstrates safe work practices including LOTO, Hot work permits & Equipment Operation
  • Proven ability to follow detailed work instructions, blueprints, and schematics
  • Demonstrates Ability in the following:
  • Understanding of lubrication systems and proper lubrication application
  • Welding skills
  • Oxy-acetylene torch skills
  • Properly install and adjust drive and transfer chains
  • Properly change, adjust, and track transfer and drive belts
  • Understanding and proper use of tools and equipment
  • Remove, rebuild, and reinstall cylinders and valves.
  • Knowledge of power transmission systems including ability to properly align components
  • Knowledge of proper rigging and lifting
  • Set-up and check bearings for proper operation

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates safe work practices including LOTO, hot work permits & equipment operation.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on turbines, generators, and auxiliary systems as scheduled.
  • Demonstrates proficient ability to set up and check bearings for proper operation.
  • Assist in diagnosing and repairing mechanical problems, ensuring compliance with operational standards.
  • Demonstrates proficient skills in layout, cutting and welding.
  • Demonstrates proficient understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to use precision tools for alignment and calibration of rotating equipment and power transmission systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including repairs and inspections.
  • Support the installation of new machinery and upgrades within the power plant.
  • Participate in safety training and adhere to safety standards during all tasks.
  • Ability to follow blueprints and schematics
  • Provide assistance during major maintenance outages, including the disassembly and reassembly of equipment.
  • Collaborate with other trades, such as electricians and engineers, to facilitate efficient maintenance operations.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of proper rigging and lifting techniques.
  • Maintain all material conveying systems according to manufacturer’s specifications and company standards.
