About The Position

As a Millwright Field Supervisor (formerly known as Foreman), you will serve in a working leadership role, performing construction responsibilities across Port of Seattle properties. You will lead and actively participate in day-to-day field activities of multi-craft PCS crews and work teams assigned by the General Supervisor and Management on small construction projects at the Airport, Seaport, and Marine locations. This role includes hands-on work related to mechanical systems, metals, welding, and metal fabrication, supporting interior, exterior, and grounds projects. You will prepare, maintain, and submit required documentation and controls for complex and difficult construction projects, including inspection logs, daily digital reports, project status updates, time tracking, toolbox meetings, materials testing, material and equipment needs, and safety requirements. You will also create Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for each project in accordance with PCS policy. You will read drawings, do material take-offs, identify staffing and resource needs, participate in planning and scheduling of project work, and communicate with the General Supervisor. You will complete a variety of tasks such as measuring, layout, bending, shaping, forming, and installing metal, laminate, and plastic components. You will repair and replace damaged or broken equipment components and fabricate bracing or support systems as needed. You will support underground utility installations, install and repair various types of fences and gates, work from heights on roofs or in manlifts to build, modify, , repair, and install different types of systems, Passenger Loading Bridgers (PLB’s), conveyors, roofing gutters, brackets, railings, and similar systems. You will maintain a safe work environment for both the work crew and public by properly setting up and maintaining cones, barricades, warning devices, and other traffic-control measures at work sites. You will also support additional tasks as needed to help the crews when work arises within the field. You will ensure compliance and enforce all Port of Seattle rules, policies, construction safety regulations, and PCS work requirements, while also ensuring that you and your crew complete all required training. You will assist in reporting injuries, incidents, and close calls as well as notify your managers. You will assess environmental risks and observe/monitor construction sites to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal hazmat laws. Requirements

  • Experienced – You are a Journey Millwright with five (5) years of journey-level millwright experience, including metal work and fabrication and two (2) years as a supervisor or lead on projects.
  • You are a SMAW/WABO certified welder or will obtain certification within 180 days.
  • Educated - You possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Knowledgeable – You have journey-level knowledge pertaining to the millwright trade, including welding and metal fabrication.
  • You can properly use rigging, personal safety equipment, and industry required tools.
  • You can read drawings and perform layout and material take-offs.
  • You have knowledge of construction means, methods, and practices of the respective trade.
  • Additionally, you are comfortable using a cellphone, email, and job tracking system to receive notification of new work orders and/or requests.

  • Safety Conscious – You are knowledgeable in construction safety best practices including safety codes, regulations, and requirements with the ability to proactively identify hazards and immediately address unsafe conditions.
  • Driver’s License – You will need a valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to project sites.
  • Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
  • Overtime Eligible – You are eligible for overtime pay in this role.
  • Safety Requirements – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance. Additionally, you will be required to obtain a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Customs Seal within 90 days of hire. As the successful candidate, you must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within the first three months of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • We hope you have journey-level experience in carpentry or as a pilebuck, including metal work and fabrication in mechanical maintenance and/or construction systems, as well as experience with layout and estimating small jobs.
  • Additionally, you possess an OSHA30 certification.
