  • Mathematical Precision: Ability to measure to the 1/16th of an inch and calculate "rough openings" versus "unit dimensions."
  • Physical Stamina: Capability to lift and maneuver heavy exterior or solid-core fire doors (often 75–100 lbs) throughout a shift.
  • Safety Mindset: Strict adherence to OSHA standards for eye/ear protection and machine guarding in a high-dust environment.
  • Experience: 1–3 years in finish carpentry, cabinet making, or a dedicated door shop.

  • Machine Operation: Safely operating specialized shop machinery, including door machines (e.g., Norfield or Kval), table saws, miter saws, pneumatic nailers, and industrial routers.
  • Machining & Boring: Drilling and mortising for locksets, deadbolts, and specialty hardware based on contractor specifications or architectural "door schedules."
  • Quality Control: Inspecting wood slabs and trim for defects, warping, or grade inconsistencies before assembly to prevent job site "call-backs."
  • Custom Modifications: Cutting down door heights, ripping jamb widths, and fabricating custom sills or specialty moldings for non-standard openings.
  • Staging & Loading: Carefully wrapping finished units in protective materials and labeling them for specific delivery routes or "will-call" pickups.
