The Milling Machine Machinist 2 position at Northrop Grumman involves setting up and operating various milling machines to perform precise machining operations. The role requires knowledge of aircraft structural fabrication and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with engineers and designers. The machinist will be responsible for interpreting blueprints, using precision measuring instruments, and ensuring quality control in accordance with established procedures.

  • Set up and operate plain or universal, horizontal, or vertical milling machines.
  • Perform machining operations such as compound angles and contours, boring compound angular holes, and gear cutting to exacting tolerances.
  • Select, mount, and align various specialized machine attachments and tooling.
  • Plan sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup.
  • Determine, set, and adjust speeds, feeds, and depth of cut.
  • Interpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications.
  • Use a variety of machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Make standard shop computations and measure, mark, and scribe dimensions for machining.
  • Monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process control procedures.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years related experience operating CNC and/or water jet machines in an aerospace, military, or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to develop and build prototype detail parts.
  • Ability to perform moderate strenuous physical and repetitious work, including lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret DoD Clearance.
  • Ability to pass a new hire Physical.
  • Experience working in an Aviation Rapid Prototype and/or Experimental Fabrication Environment.
  • Knowledge of MasterCam2023 Cam programming.
  • Some experience using NX or CAD modeling programs.
  • Experience in a team environment.

  • Active Secret DoD Clearance last investigated within 5 1/2 years.
