The Mill Technician will learn, operate, and troubleshot spiral mill machinery safely and per the work instructions and supporting tools. Job Assignments include but are not limited to positions involving the Strip In-Feed, Gapping, Tracking, and Runout Table operations. The Technician will troubleshoot mill processes and equipment for mechanical issues, analyze failures, and make or suggest improvements as needed. Mechanical aptitude required. Technicians must successfully complete company assessments or demonstrate and equivalent combination of relevant experience and skills to be eligible for consideration. This role requires the employee to successfully perform the responsibilities below (other duties may be assigned). The employee must have the desire, willingness and ability to learn the duties they have not yet performed at a safe and proficient level. Adhere to all safety protocols, policies, and personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines, including but not limited to Confined Space Entry, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and Fall Protection. Report any safety concerns or issues to the department manager or safety manager promptly. Collaborate with mill supervision to establish work priorities and ensure efficient operations. Replace tooling as needed to maintain production standards and efficiency. Coordinate with other mill technicians to achieve overall mill performance targets. Monitor mill machinery performance and address any issues that arise to ensure continuous operation. Initiate work orders for corrective maintenance tasks to maintain equipment reliability. Conduct inspections of faulty equipment and recommend necessary actions. Evaluate used parts to assess changes in dimensional requirements and their impact on operations. Install special functional and structural components in devices according to project specifications. Engage in the proper setup of machines to ensure optimal functionality. Monitor the quality of weld alignment throughout the welding process. Perform preventive maintenance by lubricating and cleaning parts, replacing components, and adhering to other PM procedures. Accurately document all activities and work orders in accordance with mill department guidelines. Start devices and conduct performance tests to ensure effective operation. Understand and execute retooling activities as required. Assess mechanical devices in operation to identify and troubleshoot issues using appropriate tools, methods, and testing equipment. Verify that all positions are checked and ready for operation before commencing work. Assist other operators with their duties and provide cross-training to new operators, as assigned by management Complete Mill Change Over per Work Instructions from start to finish. Check wire and welding equipment to ensure proper startup according to the Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) Evaluate welding quality, identify defects, and implement corrective actions. Minimize downtime by performing preventative measures Use a forklift and/or overhead crane Visually examine welds to ensure adherence to specifications and quality standards. Adjust machine setup to vary the size, location, and penetration of the weld bead as required. Complete all required process and production reporting as required Keep the work area clean and organized; change out the flux hopper when necessary. Grind welded surfaces as needed. Prepare quality control samples according to quality standards. Perform all previous duties of Mill operator position & other duties as assigned by management.

  • Troubleshooting industrial equipment experience required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees and members of management.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute ratio and percentage and to interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to read and interpret linear and circumference measurements using tape measures and calipers.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to operate machine tool control console, providing input and interpreting readings on a computer screen.
  • Mechanical aptitude required.
  • Must pass company tests to be considered.
  • Ability to read and interpret tape measures and micrometer.
  • Experience in a combination of mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulics fields.
  • Must be able to operate computer-controlled panels, including reading and interpreting console indicators and gauges.
  • Must be able to enter data into existing computer software, following on-screen prompts or written instructions.
  • Must be able to perform multi-skilled tasks including basic electrical repair and wiring, mechanical maintenance, hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical drives, and advanced electrical controls and automation.
  • Must be experienced with hand and power tools.
  • Must have a willingness to learn and apply multiple job-related skills.
  • Mechanical Maintenance Certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of welding processes and experience as a welder preferred.
