About The Position

A Mill Operator is responsible for ensuring the mill is producing a quality product as specified by the Nutrition Quality Department and confirmed by outside lab. The operator reports to the Plant Manager. This is a night shift position 6p-6a.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Technical school a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years industrial experience or a combination of education and experience.
  • Willing and able to work and act safely.
  • Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations including multiplication, addition, and percentages, with the use of a calculator if needed.
  • Must have strong communication skills and be able to effectively interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Must be able to read, understand, and comply with company safety manuals, operating procedures, SDS, production schedules, and all GMP/FDA regulations, including completion of annual GMP training.
  • Must be able to operate automatic and manual packers, set bag weights, operate bulk bag filling stations, operate forklifts, and assist with monitoring the automatic pack-out system.
  • Troubleshoots and solves problems, services equipment, and maintains a clean and orderly plant environment.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds continuously throughout the shift when assigned to packaging duties.
  • Must be able to safely operate a forklift using hand and foot controls and frequently perform physical activities including standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, and crawling.
  • Must be able to frequently climb stairs and stationary ladders using three points of contact, as plant equipment is located on multiple levels and requires access for monitoring and adjustment.
  • Must be able to work in both control room and plant environments with exposure to dust, noise, vibration, grease, oil, chemicals, aluminum trioxide, slurry, and varying temperatures ranging from extreme heat to cold, including humid and dirty conditions.

Responsibilities

  • The individual is responsible for maintaining compliance with the Mandatory Standards and Requirements (MMSRs) within their sphere of influence. This may include compliance with any air permits, wastewater permits, storm water permits, or other rules as presented to the employee as requirements. In addition, compliance with all MSHA, FDA and other regulatory agencies is required.
  • Responsible for bringing all environmental, health and safety and/or quality incidents or concerns to management for resolution.
  • In charge of monitoring their equipment for visible emissions, shutting down equipment with visible emissions and reporting emissions to their area coordinator.
  • Deal with petroleum spills properly.
  • Inspects mill area for unsafe conditions daily.
  • Operates mill in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Performs preventative maintenance servicing of equipment as required.
  • Ensures electrical equipment is locked out before repair work begins.
  • Conducts Mill service, PM’s and assists Maintenance with minor repairs of equipment as directed.
  • Produces and loads materials as established by the Plant Manager or Area Supervisor.
  • Inspects incoming raw materials on trucks before unloading occurs.
  • Fills out paperwork such as: batch records, plant orders, sample bags, lift truck inspection reports, etc.
  • Keeps work area, warehouse and outside of plant in a neat and orderly condition following GMP guidelines.
  • May direct one or more personnel in the packaging process.
  • The operator may be required to perform packaging duties based upon location or under direction of the Area Supervisor.
  • Advises succeeding Operator(s), Supervisor and maintenance of operating problems and conditions.
  • Employees must learn and observe all applicable company policies and safe practices and perform all duties assigned by supervisor.
