About The Position

GE Aerospace’s Military Materials Systems (MMS) organization has an opening for an Metallic Materials Application Engineer (MAE). The MAE will provide materials and process (M&P) definition, qualification, and lifecycle support of engine hardware and systems that satisfy engine program requirements consistent with manufacturing and inspection capabilities. In this role, you will work with design and supply chain partners to achieve business objectives and ensure safety as it relates to assigned hardware.

Requirements

  • B.S, M.S. or PhD degree in Materials Engineering, Materials Science or Metallurgy
  • At least 3 additional years of experience in an engineering position
  • This role requires the successful candidate to maintain a US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. Citizenship.
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. Therefore, employment will be contingent upon the ability to prove that you meet the status of a U.S. Person as one of the following: U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. Citizen, have been granted asylee or refugee status (i.e., a protected individual under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)).
  • GE Aerospace will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening.
  • Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a drug screen (as applicable).

Nice To Haves

  • Existing Secret or Top-Secret clearance
  • Understands basic principles of turbine engine operation
  • Experience with nickel and cobalt base superalloys, titanium alloys, or high strength steels.
  • Experience with industrial manufacturing, quality systems and field support.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes (casting, forging, coatings), quality systems, and failure analysis methods.
  • Solid oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment

Responsibilities

  • Understand design technical requirements that impact materials and process on assigned hardware and provide guidance to design and manufacturing.
  • Define materials and processes for assigned hardware; reviews/approves hardware drawings & changes to design
  • Set requirements and disposition initial part qualification and subsequent process/source changes
  • Resolve M&P related problems in the field or during manufacturing processes.
  • Identify M&P technology gaps and updates strategies within areas related to assigned hardware
  • Apply lessons learned and best practices from field experience, manufacturing evolutions, property evaluations, and development programs
  • Provide materials input and participates in design reviews for hardware
  • Communicate hardware M&P status and results to department and program team members and leadership
  • Author technical reports for key decisions related to application of materials and processes for assigned hardware
