About The Position

The Military Fellowship - Data Science position at Verizon is designed for individuals participating in the Department of Defense Skillbridge Program or the Hiring our Heroes Corporate Fellowship Program. This role involves leveraging data analytics to drive strategic decision-making and investment in Verizon's network operations. The successful candidate will work within the Network Capital Management team, focusing on statistical modeling, data visualization, and providing actionable insights to senior leadership.

Requirements

• Must be a current participant of the Department of Defense Skillbridge Program or of the Hiring our Heroes Corporate Fellowship Program Cohort 1-2025.
• Bachelor's degree or one or more years of work experience.
• Experience with logical data modeling development tools & languages, visualization tools (Tableau), database management (SQL), & API integration.
• Strong understanding of SQL, KNIME, Python (or other relevant programming languages), problem-solving using logical/programmatic representations of real-world systems.
• Visualization experience to present insights and recommendations in concise, intuitive narratives.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's degree or higher in data science, engineering, or computer science.
• Master's degree in data science, engineering, or computer science.
• Experience with geospatial analytics, Apache Sedona (Spark).
• High level of curiosity and investigative mindset, with strong attention to detail.
• Advanced experience with KNIME, Alteryx, Tableau, Python, SQL, and other data processing programs.
• Advanced experience in data engineering and data architecture.
• Experience with agile methodologies.
• Strong Google Suite & Microsoft Office skills.
• Proven ability to prioritize, manage, and deliver multiple complex projects against key deliverables and timelines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to distill complex issues quickly, effectively communicate strategies, and summarize key points.
• Strong project and process management skills and ability to manage multiple competing projects/priorities simultaneously.
• Analytical capability, including the ability to analyze a large amount of data between and amongst various systems.
• Able to translate data into executive presentations in an accurate, clear, and concise manner, including graphical displays.
• Demonstrated effective communication skills with the ability to influence and set expectations across various functional teams; and across all levels within the organization.

Responsibilities

• Use statistical modeling and analysis to understand relationships between diverse forms of customer data, network data, and business KPIs.
• Create detailed scenario analyses to estimate the impacts of potential strategic shifts and develop actionable recommendations to improve Network KPIs, optimize capital investment, and reduce operational expense.
• Develop components of statistical models and participate in various pieces of the process including data processing, analysis framework, custom complex visualization tools, and web applications.
• Perform data quality assurance testing and maintenance on pipelines, models, and dashboards.
• Design and implement statistical data quality procedures around new data sources, as well as data validation and updating procedures for existing data.
• Work on critical focus areas by meeting with stakeholders to identify the business process, relevant data requirements, and statistical methodologies to create meaningful high-value models.
• Make business recommendations (e.g. cost-benefit, forecasting, experiment analysis) with effective presentations of findings at multiple levels of stakeholders through visual displays of quantitative information.
