About The Position

The Military and Family Life Counselor (MFLC) - Adult position at Magellan Health involves providing non-medical counseling and consultation services to military service members and their families. The role focuses on delivering short-term, solution-focused counseling, training, and wellness presentations while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to military protocols. The counselor will work closely with military installations to ensure that services meet the needs of the community and will be actively involved in various health and wellness initiatives.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree from an accredited Graduate Program in a Mental Health-related field.
  • Valid unrestricted independent counseling license from a State, District of Columbia, US Territory or Commonwealth.
  • A minimum of two years of post-licensure clinical experience.
  • Intermediate-level competencies in technology and software, including Microsoft Suite and video-conferencing platforms.
  • Ability to engage and communicate with military members and children in various settings.
  • Ability to traverse short and long distances within military installations and work in outdoor conditions.
  • Understanding, sensitivity, and empathy for service members and their families.
  • Ability to develop trusting relationships with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds.

  • Prior military service or familiarity with military culture and command structure.
  • Ability to establish productive relationships with high-ranking military personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Provide MFLC consultation and counseling services to military service members and their families.
  • Deliver non-medical, short-term, solution-focused counseling directly to eligible service and family members.
  • Conduct training and health and wellness presentations, and participate in health fairs and other base activities.
  • Enter counselor activity data daily to ensure accurate reporting while maintaining client confidentiality.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with community resources and military populations.
  • Respond to critical incidents and special requests as directed by the Points of Contact (POC).
  • Communicate regularly with Regional Supervisors and participate in supervision and training activities.
  • Participate in initiatives, studies, and pilot programs as directed by the customer and/or Magellan.
