About The Position

The Military and Family Life Counselor (MFLC) provides a full range of consultation and counseling services to military service members and their families at military installations. This role involves delivering non-medical, short-term, walk-around counseling, training, and health and wellness presentations, while also consulting with installation command on behavioral health issues. The counselor is responsible for maintaining visibility within the brigade/regiment to ensure accessibility of services and for developing professional relationships with community resources. The position requires flexibility to respond to urgent requests and critical incidents as directed by the Points of Contact (POC) and the Office of Secretary of Defense (OSD) program manager. The counselor will also manage duty to warn situations according to Department of Defense (DoD) protocols and participate in regular supervision and training activities.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited graduate program in a relevant field such as social work, psychology, marriage/family therapy, or counseling.
  • Valid unrestricted independent counseling license from a State, District of Columbia, US Territory or Commonwealth.
  • Minimum 2 years of post-licensure clinical experience.
  • Intermediate-level competencies in technology and software (e.g., Microsoft Suite, video-conferencing platforms).
  • Ability to engage and communicate with military members and children.
  • Ability to traverse various physical environments on military installations.
  • Prove US Citizenship and fluency in English.
  • Understanding and empathy for service members and their families.
  • Pass a National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI) Clearance, Installation Records Check (IRC), Criminal Background Check, and FBI Fingerprints Check.
  • Possess a valid U.S. state vehicle operator’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Provide non-medical, short-term, solution-focused counseling to eligible service members and their families.
  • Deliver training and health and wellness presentations.
  • Participate in health fairs and other base activities as requested.
  • Enter counselor activity data daily to ensure accurate reporting.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with community resources.
  • Respond to critical incidents and urgent requests as needed.
  • Manage duty to warn and restricted reporting situations according to DoD protocol.
  • Communicate with Regional Supervisors and participate in supervision.
  • Participate in training, Quality Improvement committees, and other contract activities.
  • Engage in initiatives, studies, and pilot programs as directed.
