About The Position

The Milieu Manager provides leadership on the units; supervising and assigning daily tasks to MHS staff. Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and supports the facility’s treatment program and philosophy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work or related field or a minimum of 4 years’ experience in the mental health field, or a combination of training and experience.
  • Ability to perform assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work successfully under highly stressful conditions.
  • Ability to make sound, independent judgments based on scientific and/or ethical principles.
  • Capability of adapting to varying workloads and work assignments on a constant basis.
  • Effective comprehensive reading skills, strong communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Must have a working knowledge of computers.
  • Must be a Handle with Care Instructor.
  • Must be willing and able to execute the patient de-escalation methods, both verbal and physical.
  • Must be able to complete new hire requirements such as State of Alaska Background Check and Drug Testing.
  • Must be able to demonstrate special training, knowledge and skills specific to age groups, as well as job and/or program specific competency within the first three (3) months of training.
  • Must be certified in CPR and Handle with Care within the first month of training and annually thereafter.
  • Must complete all mandatory in-services annually.
  • Must be tested for Tuberculosis with a PPD skin test or chest x-ray upon hire; PPD skin test required annually or chest x-ray annually thereafter.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age if assigned to work at a Residential Treatment Center.

Responsibilities

  • Provides milieu support for staff and residents as needed and is a first response coordinator in times of crisis to assist with therapeutic intervention.
  • Facilitates HWC and NOHOLD trainings, as well as monitors CPR, First Aid, and HWC due dates and ensures classes are conducted to meet deadlines.
  • Conducts parent/guardian and/or family contact documentation and ensures completion of MHS staff’s parent/guardian and/or family contact and documentation.
  • Conducts incident report and SR paperwork reviews, reviews camera footage of SR and HWC interventions, and completes staff debriefing of SRs.
  • Tracks and keeps Q15 records.
  • Collects and interprets data from Q15 reviews, identifies areas in need of development and provides monthly reports and plans of action to senior leadership.
  • Facilitates training for staff related to group facilitation and documentation of groups as needed or requested by Directors/Managers.
  • Coordinates with Directors and Managers on Program Scheduling.
  • Recommends to the treatment team effective alternatives or modification to treatment plans based on the patient progress and response to treatment plan.
  • Ensures therapeutic recreation, expressive therapy groups, FIT groups and clinical programming is being facilitated.
  • Remains flexible in providing a variety of appropriate therapeutic interventions depending on patient needs and abilities.
  • Maintains a safe, orderly, and therapeutic physical environment for clients.
  • Coordinates with the Clinical Manager on daily programming schedules.
  • Develops and implements Performance Improvement Plans as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Fosters staff development and growth of team.
  • Provides regular coaching and feedback to employees to motivate performance.
  • Completes performance evaluations providing thorough feedback and goals to assigned staff by established deadlines.
  • Coordinates and provides day-to-day oversight to staff; actively involved in resolving employee matters/issues.
  • Maintains open communication through regular rounding and one to one meetings with employees and holds regular departmental staff meetings.
  • Ensures staff comply with assigned education requirement in a timely manner (i.e., CIA Training, HIPAA training, competencies, etc.).
  • Responsible for holding staff accountable with upholding facility policies/procedures and managing the corrective action process when needed.
  • Responsible for hiring, onboarding, and promotions for all staff within the team.
  • Maintains accurate job descriptions/evaluative tools for assigned staff.
  • Completes new-hire touch points in accordance with the facility’s Onboarding Plan.
  • Actively participates and champions the facility’s Service Excellence and Recognition Programs.
  • Develops team building initiatives to engage staff and build a positive team dynamic.
