About The Position

Under the direction of the Manager of Operational Development, the Milieu Development Specialist is responsible for executing the targeted interventions to direct care staff with the overall goal of improving clinical and operational outcomes, improve direct care staff retention, leadership preparation, and succession planning. The Milieu Development Specialist assists the Manager of Organizational Development in assessing needs and delivering trainings that enhance the safety culture of staff empowerment and engagement Brown University Health employees are expected to successfully role model the organization's values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence as these values guide our everyday actions with patients, customers and one another. Requirements

BASIC KNOWLEDGE: 96337118Bachelor’s degree with five year’s experience required or associate’s degree with 10 years’ behavioral health milieu leadership experience required. Must demonstrate aptitude and willingness to learn role related skills. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
EXPERIENCE: Over five years in Milieu Therapy or a related field with demonstrated competence in utilization of childcare techniques including supervisory and administrative ability. Proven experience in direct care staff leadership in a behavioral health care setting.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Prolonged standing and walking. Exposed to all patient elements. May be required to lift/turn patients and equipment. Repeated bending, squatting, stooping. Must obtain initial certification and annual re-certification in safety care level 1 with no restrictions.
INDEPENDENT ACTION: Performs independently within Program policies and practices. Refers specific complex problems to supervisor where clarification of Program policies and procedures may be require

Responsibilities

Staff Training, Retention, and Quality Improvement:Ensure that training programs are aligned with the Brown University Health’s C.A.R.E values and policies.
Responsible for behavioral health direct staff development including the design and implementation of program orientation, just in time trainings, one-on-one training consults, to improve staff skills and patient outcomes.
Provides input on behavioral health direct care staff job performance and achievement of expected professional development goals to the inpatient Clinical Nurse Managers and Lead Psychologists. Establishes goals for milieu staff performance and professional growth.
As a Safety Care Instructor, supports behavioral health direct care staff instruction in the techniques of crises management. Conducts mock code grey exercises to help staff hone de-escalation skills.
Partners with Manager of Operational Development to identify behavioral health direct care staff educational opportunities provides just-in-time training as appropriate. Develops and maintains a catalog of programming materials for patient engagement.
Participates in the design, development and delivery of training programs that meet organizational needs and enhance staff performance in collaboration with nursing leadership. color: rgb(112, 48, 160)· Tracks turnover data of behavioral health direct care staff and vacancy rates. Responsible for retention initiative interviews for new hires on assigned programs by conducting 30-60-90-day check-ins and documenting results while collaborating with the managers of the programs. color:#7030A0
Responsible for designing and implementing in-service programs for new and existing behavioral health direct care staff on assigned programs as part of staff meetings (Training and Consultation) as assigned. color: rgb(112, 48, 160)· In concert with Psychology team, attends threshold/crisis meetings for patients meeting criteria and assists in developmentmplementation of individualized behavioral plans. color:#7030A0 color: rgb(112, 48, 160)· Tracks weekly seclusion/restraint data for patterns and trends in patient dysregulation to help inform individualized behavioral plan design and updates. color:#7030A0
Serves as consultant and resource to program leaders with regard to behavioral health direct care staff retention, roles, leadership development, and succession planning.
Pairs with the Manager of Operational Develop, unit leadership and activities’ coordinators on the inpatient programs to ensure that programming is effectively being designed and implemented across the hospital.
Provides timely and objective feedback to leaders regarding direct care staff regarding identified gaps in knowledge or performance concerns.
Provides support and directs program implementation on the milieu on off-shifts, as needed, depending on program needs.
