About The Position

Mid-Fairfield Community Care Center is seeking a Full-Time Bachelors Level milieu counselor (bilingual Spanish/English preferred) for their Prospects Extended Day Treatment (EDT) Program. Staff working in the EDT Program will receive training and certification in the following therapeutic models which are used regularly and are trained both off-site and on-site. These include: Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), Therapeutic Drama, Project Joy, Medication Administration and Risking Connection. The Milieu Counselor co-facilitates children's therapy groups, works 1:1 with children ages 5-12, supervises children who are transported to and from program, and collaborates with parents, families and schools. This position is ideal for individuals looking to learn more about the mental health/social services field or those who are seeking to work and gain experience while they are in school. Schedule Job Type: Full time (40 hours). Hours are typically 10am-6 pm or 11am-7 p.m. Mon-Friday COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Hourly range $19-$22 based on credentials, experience and skills. Additional compensation offered for obtaining Divers License that allows for driving the van to transport the children to and from the program. Overall Responsibilities:

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, mental-health related major
  • Minimum of 2-years’ experience working with children and families, preferably in a residential, Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), or milieu-based setting
  • Familiarity with mental health diagnosis, treatment, and service systems
  • Highly skilled in behavioral management
  • Experience facilitating psychoeducational, therapeutic groups and developing appropriate child-centered activities
  • Experience and competence working with individuals and families from culturally diverse backgrounds, required
  • Verbal and written fluency in English, required
  • Availability to work evenings, as needed
  • Computer skills, including Google Workspace and Microsoft Office
  • Must be able to demonstrate:
  • Proven ability to follow program and agency, protocols as well as making independent decisions that are in the best interest of the families while working both in the office and in the field
  • Strong crisis assessment skills of an acute population
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Proven ability to manage conflict appropriately
  • Proven ability to communicate with families as well as with other providers such as school social workers, teachers and other community partners among others
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain healthy boundaries between personal and professional responsibilities to be able to function in a high stress job
  • Proven ability to manage conflict appropriately and advocate for victims of violence
  • Knowledge of person-centered care
  • Appropriate guidance and facilitation skills for families in the context of their culture, health status, and health needs
  • Knowledge of basic group skills
  • Basic negotiation skills
  • Ability to delegate tasks, responsibilities, etc.
  • Excellent time management skills

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate groups and activities for clients in assigned room.
  • Provide crisis intervention as clinically indicated.
  • Implementation of the behavior modification/level system.
  • Assist in providing transportation by riding in the van with the driver and addressing any issues.
  • Monitor children's absences and collaborate with family and school around attendance issues
  • Attend all interdisciplinary meetings as scheduled
