To recruit students who are eligible for services of the migrant student education program and provide support services to schools for the instructio of those students.
Recruit school-age and non-school-age migrant children for enrollment.
Become knowledgeable of the program philopsophy, curriculum, activities and support services, and assist the district staff in determining appropriate accommodations modified to meet the needs of the target group students.
Assist school personnel in identifying ways to meet the educational needs of the target group.
Work with school personnel to make the student's first exposure to the school a positive, non-threatening experience.
Serve as interpreter at parent-teacher conferences when qualified instructional assistants or other personnel are not available.
Participate in planning and implementing inservice programs involving school staff members, assisting them in recognizing and understanding the collective and individual needs of the target group students, and in developing programs and services necessary to accomodate those needs.
Work with students and parents to encourage regular attendance.
Keep school administrators and transportation personnel advised of needed transportation services for the migrant students.
Encourage target group parents to visit the school and participate in school sponsored activities.
Assist direct administrators in planning and implementing parent advisory committee activities.
Participate in indentifying available agencies, service organizations, businesses and industries in the community that can provide supportive services that will assist the school in meeting the needs of the target group students.
Assist school personnel and parents in responding to emergencies such as taking students to the doctor, dentist, home, etc.
Provide the school administrators the names of the migrant children who should be provided free hot lunches.
Through a cooperative effort of school and community resources, assure that the target group students have adequate clothing.
Establish lines of positive communication with growers, camp owners and managers, and all people who can provide information concerning the temporary or permanent resident of the target group families.
Advise school administrators of projected crop conditions, labor demands and number of migrant families anticipated by growers, contractors and camp managers for the current year.
Complete certificates of eligibility with parents' signatures in a timely manner.
Develop a working knowledge of school law and district policy.
Keep a log of daily activities and complete summary reports.
Bilingual in Spanish and English
Valid First Aid card
Valid Driver's License
Written and oral communication skills
Formal and informal education or training sufficient to perform job
