About The Position

The Midwest Division Development Writer is primarily responsible for writing and editing a variety of communications materials to engage, solicit and steward individual and institutional donors with the capacity to give at the $100,000+ level. They collaborate with fundraising, conservation program, and finance staff to craft successful letters of intent, fundraising proposals and impact reports for TNC’s work in five Midwest states (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin) and across the globe. They may provide editorial advice and expertise to team members around donor communications. They will also support the donor communications and donor messaging needs of the Midwest Division's conservation leads upon request. The ideal candidate has experience writing successful grant proposals and creating compelling content within strict funder guidelines. The Development Writer also helps achieve the strategic priorities of the Midwest Donor Communications team by collaborating closely with other team members. They assist in the writing, editing, design and production of donor communications in collaboration with the Midwest Division's Marketing & Communications team. Products may include donor acknowledgment templates, tailored concept notes, unrestricted and flexible funding proposals, stewardship reports, donor profiles, outreach emails, talking points, presentations, annual appeal letters, and proposal/report templates. The MWD Development Writer will keep up to date on market trends and best practices for donor communications (including donor communications tools, policies, and global campaign resources produced by Global Development) to help achieve the organization’s fundraising goals. They are responsible for maintaining close relationships with closely aligned teams, such as Marketing & Communications and/or conservation programs, to ensure consistent messaging in materials and to foster greater organizational collaboration in pursuit of the organization’s 2030 Goals. This is a remote position open to candidates living in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin. The preferred location is Wisconsin; however, other locations within the Midwest Division will be considered. Are you looking for work you can believe in? Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years related experience or equivalent combination.
  • Experience working across departments.
  • Experience, coursework or other training in principles and practices of donor communications or related field, such as journalism or marketing communications.
  • Experience writing or editing one of the following: newsletter, magazine, annual report, website articles/stories, donor profiles, funding proposals or reports, campaign brochures, fact sheets, presentations, or equivalent.
