About The Position

The Operations Middleware Team supports various web and app servers from vendors including Windows and IBM to support the needs of the business. As a Middleware Engineer, you will be building, maintaining, optimizing, and automating various tasks that support applications and infrastructure systems that run on various operating systems including, but not limited to Windows and Linux. You will work closely with various other IT teams and business units to design and build solutions to support the growth of the business. This is a subset of the overall responsibilities which will include multiple initiatives as assigned by IT leadership. This role is hybrid (Mon through Thu on-site / Fri remote) at the UMB Technology & Operations Center located in downtown Kansas City, MO.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least 3 years of experience in a technical role supporting n-Tier app infrastructure OR at least 5 years of experience in a technical role supporting n-Tier app infrastructure in lieu of degree.
  • Experience with both UNIX and Windows Operating Systems.
  • Knowledge of web and application servers including Microsoft IIS, IBM WebSphere Application Servers, IBM HTTPS Servers, Apache Web servers.
  • Experience with SSL Certificates.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and incidents simultaneously.
  • Advanced knowledge of Internet fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, SSL, HTTP)
  • Proficiency in shell scripting (Bash, PowerShell, etc.)
  • Applicants must have legal authority to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications and/or professional training.
  • Experience with code development.
  • Worked with Ansible and Ansible Automation Platform.
  • Experience with JBOSS.
  • Understand Active Directory LDAP or eDirectory LDAP.
  • Experience working with SSO applications.
  • ITIL Foundations Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with multiple departments within UMB to deploy and support UMB infrastructure and application stacks.
  • Keep systems up to date with patches, break-fixes, and enhancements to existing applications and systems.
  • Automate processes and deployments via tools like Ansible, Urban Code Deploy and scripting.
  • Coordinate with multiple technical teams including application development, systems, network, and security administrators.
  • Assist to triage and coordinate troubleshooting of application issues in development, quality assurance and production environments.
  • Identify opportunities to improve availability, reliability, and performance of application infrastructure by staying current on technology and exploring new opportunities.
  • Provide technical leadership within team and on project teams to accomplish tasks and projects.
  • Identify problems, create solutions, and guide change.
  • Document work and follows UMB corporate, department, and work center policies.
  • Partner and interact with technology vendors in support of the UMB environment.
  • Work in an on-call rotation with shared responsibilities amongst other teammates.
