The ideal candidate will have experience teaching Social Studies at the Middle School and/or Upper School level and will be capable of teaching a range of subjects, including American history, world history, American government, comparative government, and economics - ideally, in both AP and IB contexts. This position will teach five sections and lead an advisory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in history, one of the social sciences, or a related field
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work successfully with a team of educators
  • Experience integrating technology into teaching practices, including Google Suite for Education preferred
  • Effective communication and presentation skills
  • Strong work ethic
  • Commitment to a growth mindset and continuous professional development
  • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive work environment

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Demonstrated success teaching students in an independent school or a similar setting
  • Experience delivering IB/MYP and AP programs preferred

Responsibilities

  • Implements inquiry-based instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences
  • Prepares course material, such as syllabi, course overviews, unit plans, homework assignments, and assessments, ensuring completion of the curriculum
  • Provides students with ongoing and effective feedback about their work which includes group and peer critique, guided self evaluation and criterion based rubrics
  • Plans, evaluates, and revises curricula, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction with guidance from the Department Chair
  • Aligns instruction and assessment with the AP/IB/MYP programs (as needed)
  • Maintains effective and timely record keeping procedures using educational technology
  • Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis
  • Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment
  • Uses effective classroom management techniques to ensure students are working in an environment conducive to learning
  • Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits, such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, and coordinating activities
  • Maintains expertise in subject matter through professional development
  • Stays current with technology advances and incorporates technology in the classroom
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor
