Teacher Apprentices observe and learn from classroom teachers. They will co-teach in the classroom, support teachers with tutoring, grading, and individual or small group student instruction and provide substitute coverage for teachers. Depending on school needs and previous candidate experience, they may also teach their own class of students, allowing for direct teaching experience within a more limited teaching load. Teacher Apprentices will also offer teacher support with a variety of work inside and outside of the classroom, including teaching Enrichment classes, organizing student events, and developing mentoring relationships with students. By taking part in summer and school-year professional development, as well as regular meetings with an instructional coach, Teacher Apprentices will have many opportunities to gain experience and develop their teaching skills. This role is a one year role, with the option to renew for one additional year depending on performance. The goal for all Teacher Apprentices is to become a classroom teacher within 1 - 2 years after learning through hands-on experience what it means to be a teacher at Inwood Academy.
