About The Position

Rowland Hall is seeking an innovative and student-centered Middle School Science Teacher to join our faculty. This full-time role typically includes teaching four sections of 6th grade science and leading a grade-level advisory. The successful candidate will inspire curiosity through engaging hands-on, inquiry-driven learning, support students in developing scientific thinking and problem-solving skills, and actively contribute to a collaborative and inclusive school community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required; Master’s degree and teaching experience preferred
  • Experience teaching science and working with middle school students, with the ability to support student learning and well-being
  • Strong content knowledge in relevant science disciplines
  • Flexible, innovative thinker eager to explore new ideas and evidence-based teaching strategies
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage classroom and professional responsibilities effectively
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative approach to working with colleagues, students, and families
  • Commitment to reflective practice, professional growth, and innovative, research-based instruction
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Proficiency with educational technology, including learning management systems (e.g., Canvas), Google Workspace, and other web-based tools
  • Commitment to supporting and promoting the mission and values of Rowland Hall

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate science instruction aligned with NGSS standards and relevant course content.
  • Design inquiry-based, student-centered lessons that promote questioning, problem-solving, and critical thinking
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs and support equitable access to learning
  • Facilitate hands-on investigations, modeling, and data analysis to build students’ scientific and computational thinking skills
  • Guide students in constructing explanations, designing solutions, and engaging in argumentation from evidence
  • Assess and evaluate student learning using a variety of formative and summative methods; communicate progress clearly and regularly
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment that supports curiosity, collaboration, and student engagement
  • Communicate proactively with students, families, and faculty to support student success and well-being
  • Integrate technology effectively into instruction
  • Maintain an organized, safe, and productive classroom and laboratory environment
  • Contribute to the school community by participating in meetings, events, assigned duties (e.g., supervision, field trips, club sponsorship), and the advisory program
  • Support school culture through professionalism, collaboration, and active engagement in school-wide initiatives
