About The Position

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities. AMS is seeking a passionate and data-driven Middle School Science Teacher (Grades 5–8) to join our team at the AMS Power Campus in Mesa for the 2026–2027 school year. The Middle School Science Teacher is responsible for delivering rigorous, standards-aligned instruction that helps scholars develop scientific inquiry skills, analytical thinking, and a strong understanding of core scientific concepts. The ideal candidate will create an engaging classroom environment where students explore scientific ideas through experimentation, critical thinking, and problem-solving. AMS teachers are collaborative professionals who believe that all scholars can achieve at high levels through structured instruction, strong classroom culture, and data-informed teaching practices.

Requirements

  • Candidates must meet one of the following requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Science, Education, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or relevant content area)
  • OR Valid Arizona teaching certification in a relevant subject area
  • OR Minimum of three (3) years of K–12 teaching experience
  • Additionally, candidates must:
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management skills
  • Pass required background checks and obtain an IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Show commitment to serving Title I and multilingual communities
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills and a data-driven instructional mindset
  • Exhibit collaboration, professionalism, and initiative in a team-based environment

Responsibilities

  • Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned science instruction aligned with AMS curriculum and Arizona academic standards.
  • Teach core science concepts including life science, physical science, and earth/space science.
  • Differentiate instruction to support students performing above and below grade level.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and inform instructional planning.
  • Implement engaging instructional strategies that promote scientific inquiry, experimentation, and critical thinking.
  • Establish and maintain a structured, positive, and high-expectations classroom environment.
  • Implement PBIS and proactive classroom management strategies.
  • Support students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development.
  • Foster curiosity, exploration, and a passion for scientific learning.
  • Participate in weekly professional development and professional learning communities (PLCs).
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams, instructional coaches, and school leadership to strengthen instructional practices.
  • Use student performance data to guide instructional improvement and academic interventions.
  • Contribute to school-wide systems and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and academic expectations.
  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences and maintain strong home–school partnerships.
  • Support family engagement initiatives that promote student success.
