We are seeking a dynamic and talented educator to teach Science and Math in the Middle School, with a primary focus on Life Science. The most desirable candidates will have experience across multiple disciplines at the middle school level and have demonstrated a commitment to engaging science and math education. The ideal teacher will create a rich learning environment and offer a variety of instruction including inquiry-based learning, hands-on laboratory work, and class discussions. S/he will have the ability to work collaboratively with other STEM educators and to develop and deliver effective lessons that differentiate instruction to a diverse group of learners.

Requirements

  • A successful candidate will hold a Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Science or Math Education and/or in Biology, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Prior experience teaching in a Middle School (Grades 6 – 8) setting is strongly preferred.
  • Candidates should be enthusiastic about pedagogy – particularly inquiry-based, lab-centered, and application-driven approaches to science and math education.
  • Successful candidates will also possess a positive attitude, excellent written and verbal skills, strong organizational skills, and demonstrated success in collaborative, collegial work environments.
  • The candidate must possess or acquire and maintain a State of Ohio-issued teaching certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation and implementation of daily lessons
  • Design, implementation, and timely evaluation of rigorous, authentic formative and summative assessments
  • Use of laboratory experiences, discussion, and inquiry-based learning to support student understanding
  • Timely and proactive communication with students, parents, and advisors about student performance
  • Advising of a small group of students
  • Collaboration with faculty, administration, and staff on experiential, interdisciplinary, and community-based learning opportunities aligned with the school’s mission and values
  • Active participation in all faculty and staff meetings
  • Support of divisional and school-wide initiatives through committee work, where appropriate
  • Supervision and/or participation in non-academic activities, including lunch, study halls, dances, class trips, etc
