About The Position

The Middle School Resource Teacher teaches small-group middle school classes focused on independent learning skills while overseeing student progress in self-paced ASL coursework. The Resource Teacher will collaborate with the Learning Specialists, Math Specialist, teachers, and families to support and communicate regarding student progress and needs. As members of the teaching faculty, the Resource Teacher should be ready to chaperone class trips and engage fully in all school or division-wide events/experiences that develop the whole child in a Catholic, independent school community. As with any employee at Mayfield Junior School, there is an expectation that this person will be open to peer feedback, creative discussion, and child-centered in their approach. All employees at Mayfield Junior School should familiarize themselves with the mission and vision statement and be prepared to actively teach with Holy Child goals in mind.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement systems, routines, and daily executive functioning lessons that help grades 5–8 students develop independence and manage their coursework.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to support students with diverse learning needs and ability levels.
  • Coordinate with ASL Virtual Academy instructors to support students completing self-paced second language coursework.
  • Collaborate with teachers, the Middle School Learning Specialist, and the Math Specialist to develop and monitor individualized student support plans.
  • Plan and lead an after-school Homework Club program, at minimum 2 days per week.
  • Offer daily morning office hours beginning at 7:30 am to support student needs before the start of the academic day (except on Homework Club days).
  • Proctor assessments for students with accommodations as needed.
  • Communicate regularly with teachers and families to support student progress and address individual needs.
  • Maintain accurate, organized, and up-to-date student records.
  • Is visible and present on campus and at school activities
  • Performs any other job-related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned
  • Participates as a chaperone for class trips/field trips at least once a year
