About The Position

The Middle School Project Lead the Way (PLTW) / STEM Teacher is responsible for providing instruction to students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) using the Project Lead the Way curriculum and other aligned instructional resources. The position emphasizes hands-on, project-based learning to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and real-world application skills in students.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of STEM content areas, including science, engineering, technology, and/or mathematics
  • Understanding of Project Lead the Way curriculum and instructional framework (or willingness to obtain training)
  • Ability to implement project-based and experiential learning strategies
  • Strong classroom management skills, particularly in hands-on learning environments
  • Ability to integrate technology to enhance student learning
  • Knowledge of adolescent development and learning styles
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and contribute to interdisciplinary teams
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to maintain a safe and effective learning environment, including proper supervision of equipment and materials
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • certification from the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board with endorsement in one or more of the following: Science (6–12), Mathematics (6–12), Computer Science, or related field.
  • Willingness to attend and successfully complete Project Lead the Way professional development training (typically held during the summer).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching STEM-related subjects or middle school students is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and prepares for classroom instruction aligned to PLTW curriculum and District standards.
  • Has and maintains knowledge of STEM subject areas and PLTW instructional practices and teaches to District objectives and/or student IEPs.
  • Implements project-based and inquiry-driven instructional strategies that promote student engagement and problem-solving.
  • Provides instruction to students in STEM-related courses using a variety of instructional techniques and technology-based tools.
  • Personalizes instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Utilizes appropriate assessment strategies, including performance-based assessments, to measure student learning and growth.
  • Maintains a safe and organized classroom/lab environment, including proper use and care of tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Provides equity in the classroom by providing equal opportunity for students regardless of race, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, background, and abilities.
  • Communicates with and constantly strives to maintain a positive relationship with students and parents.
  • Manages student behavior in the classroom.
  • Integrates cross-curricular connections and collaborates with colleagues to enhance STEM learning opportunities.
  • Supports and encourages student participation in STEM-related activities, clubs, or competitions, as appropriate.
  • Participates in required Project Lead the Way training and ongoing professional development.
  • Organizes the classroom to promote learning, student safety, and ensures classroom equipment functions in a safe manner.
  • Responds appropriately to student behavior in the total school environment by enforcing school rules in hallways, on school grounds, in other school areas away from the classroom, and on school-sponsored trips.
  • Participates in professional growth (such as professional organizations, coursework, workshops, and conferences) and other professional activities (such as school and/or District committees, taskforces, in-depth studies, or councils).
  • Follows the policies and procedures of the school and the District.
  • Demonstrates a sense of professional responsibility, such as demonstrating ethical behavior; providing accurate data and reports when needed; meeting deadlines; maintaining confidentiality; caring for the equipment and materials; and dressing appropriately and presenting a good role model.
  • Other duties as assigned.
