About The Position

Equitas Academy Charter Schools is on a mission to prepare students for college, careers, and life pursuits, inspiring them to be champions of equity. The school currently serves over 2,000 students across four elementary schools and two middle schools in the Pico-Union neighborhood of Los Angeles. We are seeking a committed and accomplished school leader to work with our dedicated staff to continue preparing our scholars for college graduation. The ideal candidate should be an antiracist educator and leader, prioritize family, student, and staff voice, model our core values, and build strong relationships while achieving results.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • A California teaching credential.
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience (5+ preferred), with a demonstrated record of exceptional academic outcomes for scholars.

Nice To Haves

  • A California administrative credential or other training/experience likely to produce a similar level of preparedness.
  • Master’s degree or doctorate in education or other related field.
  • Experience working in historically marginalized communities.
  • Fluency in Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Inspires adults and scholars in the school community to work towards the school’s vision while embodying Equitas core beliefs and values.
  • Builds the capacity of staff to support academic achievement through effective implementation of adopted curricula and appropriate interventions.
  • Leads the implementation of a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS), ensuring that all scholars experience inclusive academic instruction, behavioral support, social-emotional instruction, and mental health support.
  • Implements systems to ensure equitable access for all subgroups, prioritizing scholars encountering unique challenges, including scholars with disabilities and emergent bilingual scholars.
  • Builds an effective leadership team with a relentless focus on student learning; creates conditions for all leadership team members to collaboratively lead the school.
  • Facilitates change management processes, empowering stakeholders to provide meaningful input and generating broad buy-in and motivation.
  • Provides leadership and oversight of a wide range of school programs, including those involving external partnerships.
  • Serves as a key leader in strategic planning and external compliance processes.
  • Ensures that faculty and staff are frequently observed and provided with feedback aligned to agreed-upon goals.
  • Develops and implements a system of high-quality professional learning opportunities and skillful coaching.
  • Evaluates and/or oversees the evaluation of faculty and staff.
  • Hires and retains effective faculty and staff; provides professional growth opportunities.
  • Builds the school’s collective capacity to embrace diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism.
  • Embraces a restorative approach to relationships and leads the implementation of restorative practices.
  • Collaboratively creates and maintains a safe and supportive school environment.
  • Empowers stakeholders through advisory and decision-making bodies.
  • Oversees the implementation of a broad range of formative and summative assessments.
  • Supports faculty and staff in effectively using multiple sources of data to track progress.
  • Partners with network and site-based teammates to create an annual dashboard aligned to the Equitas Common Measures.
  • Engages in ongoing professional learning and growth through various forms of professional development.
  • Models and builds the capacity of staff to solicit feedback and reflect on their impact.
  • Collaborates productively with leaders across the Equitas network.
  • Adapts in response to new information and shifting priorities.
