About the position

This is currently an anticipated position. The role involves teaching Physical Education to Middle School students, focusing on meeting their individual needs, interests, and abilities. The teacher will create a conducive learning environment and prepare for classes, demonstrating written evidence of preparation when requested. The position requires guiding students towards achieving curriculum goals and maintaining standards of classroom behavior.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the physical limitations of the location and the needs of the students.
  • Strives to implement the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students regularly and provides progress reports as required.
  • Takes necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and district policy.
  • Assists administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and maintains order in a fair manner.
  • Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction.
  • Translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize available time for instruction.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed for a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
  • Communicates with parents to discuss pupil's progress and interpret the school program.
  • Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members to help solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • Administers group standardized tests in accordance with the district testing program.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
