About The Position

KIPP Miami Public Schools is part of the KIPP national nonprofit network of college-preparatory, public charter schools. Founded in 2018, KIPP Miami operates two nonprofit charter schools in Greater Miami’s Urban Core communities, educating students in grades K-4 at KIPP Royalty Academy and 5-8 middle school students at Courage Academy. The middle school is seeking awe-inspiring teachers to guide students as they prepare for college and beyond. The Middle School Physical Education Teacher will design, implement, and assess a dynamic physical education program that promotes student health, fitness, and motor skills development, fosters a culture of inclusion, rigor, and joy, aligns with state standards, and integrates character development, teamwork, and leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or related field
  • Valid Florida educator certification or ability to become certified in Physical Education
  • Demonstrated experience (or strong internship/student teaching) designing and delivering quality PE instruction
  • Strong classroom management skills in active, movement-based settings
  • Capacity to adapt instruction to diverse learners
  • Excellent communication skills with students, families, and colleagues
  • Commitment to working with students from underserved communities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a charter, urban, or high-expectation school environment
  • Knowledge of health and wellness education, nutrition, and behavior change strategies
  • Experience coaching or leading extracurricular sports or fitness clubs
  • Familiarity with technology tools for assessment and tracking fitness data.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver standards-aligned PE lessons (e.g. Florida State Standards, National Standards for Physical Education)
  • Use a progression of units (fitness, sports, movement, wellness, health) and assess student mastery
  • Adapt and differentiate instruction for all students, including those with IEPs
  • Use data to inform instruction and intervene when students struggle
  • Provide timely feedback to students on performance and areas for growth
  • Establish clear routines, procedures, and expectations for safety and student behavior
  • Uphold the school’s culture and values
  • Model and teach social-emotional skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership
  • Foster a classroom environment where every student feels safe and valued
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams and other teachers to integrate physical education with cross-curricular goals
  • Communicate with families about student progress and fitness goals
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school-wide culture planning
  • Support and supervise field days, interscholastic events, and after-school sports or clubs
  • Coordinate with school operations for facility scheduling and equipment maintenance
  • Engage in coaching cycles, peer observations, and feedback to improve instructional practice
  • Reflect on lesson outcomes and stay current in best practices in physical education.
