About The Position
Sidwell Friends School, a co-educational Quaker day school located in NW Washington, DC, seeks a full-time Choral Music teacher in its Middle School division beginning in the 2025-26 school year. The successful candidate will teach choral and general music classes for middle school students in grades 5-8. In addition to choral skills and general music, the candidate will be responsible for two performances: generally, one in the fall and one in the spring. The person may also serve as a 7-8 advisor. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to partner with other members of the Arts Department to act as the Music Director of the spring musical. Specifically, the choral teacher is responsible for teaching the choral music to the students involved and ensuring that they are prepared for the performances. There are other performances throughout the year for which the choral teacher prepares students, including the potential for one or two pieces for special events, participation in a performance of local independent school choral groups, and the 8th grade closing ceremony. The successful candidate must be a team player who has a genuine understanding of and appreciation for adolescents and thrives in a lively, fast-paced academic environment. Candidates must have experience working with developing voices and creating performance opportunities that are developmentally appropriate for Middle School students.
