About The Position

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities. AMS is seeking a passionate and data-driven Middle School Math Teacher (Grades 6–8) to deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction that strengthens scholars’ mathematical reasoning, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills. AMS teachers are collaborative professionals who believe all scholars can achieve at high levels through structured instruction, strong classroom culture, and consistent data-driven decision-making. This role requires a teacher who is committed to supporting students in Title I communities while maintaining high academic expectations and fostering a structured, engaging learning environment that prepares students for high school success.

Requirements

  • Valid teaching certification in Mathematics or a relevant subject area, OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study (e.g., Mathematics, Education, STEM field, or similar field), OR
  • Minimum of three (3) years of K–8 teaching experience
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management skills
  • Show commitment to serving Title I and multilingual learner communities
  • Possess strong analytical abilities and enthusiasm for data-driven instruction
  • Demonstrate collaboration, professionalism, and initiative in a team-based environment
  • Pass required background checks and obtain an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

Responsibilities

  • Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned mathematics instruction aligned with AMS curriculum frameworks for middle school grades.
  • Build strong foundations in mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, algebraic thinking, and quantitative analysis.
  • Design engaging lessons that promote conceptual understanding and real-world application of math concepts.
  • Differentiate instruction to support students performing above and below grade level.
  • Use formative and summative assessment data to guide instructional planning and targeted interventions.
  • Establish and maintain a structured, positive, and high-expectations classroom environment.
  • Implement PBIS and preventative intervention strategies to support student behavior and engagement.
  • Support students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development.
  • Encourage persistence, collaboration, and critical thinking when solving complex problems.
  • Participate in weekly professional development and professional learning communities.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams and instructional leaders to improve instructional practices and student outcomes.
  • Contribute to school-wide initiatives focused on STEM education and academic achievement.
  • Use student data and reflective practices to continuously improve instruction.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and academic expectations.
  • Lead parent-teacher conferences and maintain strong home-school partnerships.
  • Provide families with strategies and resources to support math learning at home.
