Middle School Mandarin Chinese Teacher Part-Time Leave Replacement for the 2026-2027 School Year
About The Position
Menlo School seeks a part-time Middle School Mandarin Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. This is a one-year substitute position to support the Middle School during an employee’s leave of absence. The ideal candidate will have 3 or more years of classroom experience teaching Mandarin at the middle school level, a bachelor’s degree in Chinese, education, or a related field (an advanced degree preferred), and excellent proficiency in Mandarin Chinese (spoken and written). Familiarity with ACTFL proficiency guidelines and standards-based assessment is strongly preferred. This is a benefits-eligible position. The Middle School Mandarin Teacher will teach three sections of Mandarin Chinese in grades 6-8, focusing on communicative proficiency and cultural understanding in an interactive, student-centered classroom. Reporting to the Director of Middle School and serving as a member of the Middle School World Languages Department, the teacher will: Design and implement communicative, student-centered lessons that emphasize listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Mandarin Chinese. Use a variety of assessments to monitor student progress and provide clear, timely feedback. Differentiate instruction for a range of student abilities. Plan cultural activities (such as field trips and hands-on experiences) that deepen students’ understanding of the Chinese-speaking world. Communicate proactively and effectively with parents, students, and colleagues. Integrate appropriate technology to support language acquisition and cultural exploration. Contribute to the broader life of the Middle School by participating in regular faculty meetings and community events, as appropriate for a part-time role. Requirements
