About The Position

The literacy specialist facilitates the Lexington middle school literacy program. This includes providing literacy interventions, participating in the MTSS and SST process, providing literacy push-in support in classes, and collaborating with department colleagues.

Requirements

  • Appropriate MA DESE licensure in Reading
  • Leadership and organizational qualities that include the ability to facilitate teams, communicate collaboratively, and coordinate data.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the Response to Intervention (RtI) process, at-risk supports, and literacy development.
  • Experience and commitment to working in a racially and culturally diverse teaching and learning community.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Specialist teacher of Reading, Language and Literacy, English Language Arts Curriculum, and/or English as a Second Language, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide research-based, direct instruction in small intervention groups to at-risk students.
  • Work collaboratively with the school-wide team on the appropriate use of data in making educational decisions.
  • Facilitate the coordination of school-wide and individual student progress monitoring data.
  • Provide Push-In Literacy support in classes.
  • Collaborate with building administration, the department head, and teacher teams to review student data.
  • Evaluates students' academic growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students' progress and interpret the literacy program.
  • Exhibit dependability and punctuality in assigned duties.
  • Strive to improve professional competence.
  • Display appropriate personal and professional traits that exhibit a positive role model for students.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Strive to achieve the objectives and expectations of the Teacher Performance Evaluation Plan.
  • Maintain a caseload of students receiving instructional interventions as determined by building administration.
  • Attend Intervention Specialist meetings and share pertinent information with building administration and teams.
  • All other duties as assigned.
