About The Position

Latin School of Chicago has an immediate need for a Middle School Language Arts Teacher from as soon as possible through May 29, 2026. The Middle School Language Arts Long Term Substitute Teacher will report to the Division Director and teach 5th and 6th grade as well as serving as a homeroom teacher. The Teacher is responsible for applying their expertise to develop and deliver courses/programs, so students learn and reach their academic goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education or related field is required.
  • 3-5+ years teaching experience in English/Language Arts
  • Someone who places a high value on diversity and fosters an appreciation for differences in our community.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Education or related field is preferred.
  • Experience developing strategies for improving students’ reading, writing, and presentation skills
  • Well versed in utilizing educational technology, contributed to interdisciplinary projects, and has experience with project- based learning is desired.
  • Understands the needs of children and supports the social/emotional growth of all students.
  • Experience or familiarity with the six traits of writing programs preferred

Responsibilities

  • Teach a Language Arts curriculum with emphasis on writing strategies.
  • Evaluation of student portfolios and other materials to conduct learning assessments of students
  • Supervise students in non-classroom activities as assigned and schedule including supervisions, such as lunch, study hall, and recess duty.
  • Attend required department, faculty, and school meetings
  • Communicate effectively as a team member with fellow faculty in the grade level, department, and middle school as a whole
  • Cultivate an inclusive and supportive climate for all students, particularly students from underrepresented backgrounds
  • Uses educational technology as a vital part of teaching
  • Other duties as required or assigned.
