About The Position

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities. AMS is seeking a passionate and data-driven Middle School Humanities Teacher (Grades 5–8) to join our team at the Nellis Campus in Las Vegas for the 2026–2027 school year. The Middle School Humanities Teacher is responsible for delivering rigorous, standards-aligned instruction in English Language Arts, reading, writing, and social studies, helping scholars develop strong literacy, critical thinking, and analytical skills. The ideal candidate will create an engaging and structured learning environment that prepares students for high school success and beyond. AMS teachers are collaborative professionals who believe that all scholars can achieve at high levels through structured instruction, strong classroom culture, and data-informed teaching practices.

Requirements

  • Valid teaching license issued by the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) (or ability to obtain prior to start date)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, History, or a related field
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management skills
  • Show commitment to serving Title I and multilingual learner communities
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills and a data-driven instructional mindset
  • Exhibit collaboration, professionalism, and initiative in a team-based environment
  • Successfully pass required background checks in accordance with Nevada state requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience teaching middle school humanities (grades 5–8)
  • Experience working in Title I or high-need school environments
  • Experience supporting English Language Learners (ELLs)
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred

Responsibilities

  • Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned humanities instruction aligned with AMS curriculum and Nevada Academic Content Standards.
  • Teach core subjects including English Language Arts, reading comprehension, writing, and social studies.
  • Differentiate instruction to support students performing above and below grade level.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and guide instructional planning.
  • Develop students’ critical thinking, writing, reading comprehension, and analytical reasoning skills.
  • Establish and maintain a structured, positive, and high-expectations classroom environment.
  • Implement PBIS and proactive classroom management strategies.
  • Support students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development.
  • Encourage student voice, discussion, and engagement in learning.
  • Participate in weekly professional development and professional learning communities (PLCs).
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams, instructional coaches, and school leadership to strengthen instructional practices.
  • Use student performance data to support instructional improvement and targeted interventions.
  • Contribute to school-wide systems focused on student achievement and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and academic expectations.
  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences and maintain strong home–school partnerships.
  • Support family engagement initiatives that promote student success.
