About The Position

The Middle School High Ability Math Teacher will provide advanced and accelerated math instruction aligned to Indiana State Standards for high-ability and high-achieving students at Career Academy Middle School. The teacher will design rigorous learning experiences that challenge students, promote problem-solving, and support enrichment beyond the on-grade level curriculum up to Algebra 1.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, education, or a related field.
  • Valid Indiana Teaching License with the appropriate math endorsement.
  • Strong understanding of academic ability testing and data interpretation.
  • Expertise in integrating technology into instruction, documentation, and curriculum planning.
  • Ability to teach and support students in using technological tools and applications.
  • Clear communication skills for conveying assessment results to students, parents, and staff.
  • Skill in designing, implementing, and evaluating individualized or small-group behavior and learning plans.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize tasks, and flexibility in scheduling and planning.
  • Commitment to supporting advanced learners and fostering a challenging, engaging learning environment.
  • Must demonstrate foundational professionalism, including consistent attendance, punctuality, adherence to school policies and procedures, and strong employability skills. These are considered essential, non-negotiable expectations of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver middle school high-ability math curriculum aligned with school goals, Indiana State Standards, and best practices for gifted education.
  • Create a classroom environment that is safe, inclusive, and supportive of individualized, small-group, and accelerated instruction.
  • Design rigorous lesson plans that challenge students through enrichment, higher-order thinking tasks, and advanced problem-solving opportunities.
  • Teach assigned math courses at an accelerated or advanced level, ensuring pacing and content meet the needs of high-ability learners.
  • Use ongoing assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction, including providing extensions or interventions when needed.
  • Provide differentiated instruction tailored to student strengths, interests, and readiness levels.
  • Model and teach academic responsibility, growth mindset, and citizenship in alignment with school and district expectations.
  • Maintain accurate records of student learning, grades, and attendance according to school policies.
  • Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to support student growth and communicate progress effectively.
  • Set and uphold clear expectations for student behavior to maintain a functional, productive learning environment.
  • Work closely with grade-level teams, math colleagues, and school leadership to review curriculum, analyze data, and align instructional practices.
  • Administer district and state assessments following required protocols.
  • Participate in school activities as assigned, including but not limited to: Faculty meetings held before or after school, Open houses and parent engagement events, Commencement or awards ceremonies, Student supervision or chaperoning responsibilities, Student support, guidance, or academic advising, Participation on school committees and problem-solving teams
