About The Position

Atlas Public Schools is excited to launch its new middle school beginning in the 2026-2027 school year, starting with 6th grade. We are seeking a passionate and skilled Middle School English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher to join our founding middle school team. This is a new position and a unique opportunity for an educator who is excited to help build a strong middle school culture from the ground up. The Middle School ELA Teacher will play a critical role in establishing rigorous academic expectations, systems, and instructional practices that will grow with our students as Atlas expands to additional middle school grades in future years.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Missouri teaching certification in English Language Arts (or ability to obtain).
  • Strong content knowledge in reading, writing, and literary analysis.
  • Commitment to Atlas’ mission, values, and belief in all students’ ability to achieve at high levels.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching middle school students strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Internalize and implement Atlas-approved middle school ELA curriculum aligned to Missouri Learning Standards.
  • Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons focused on reading comprehension, literary analysis, writing, grammar, and vocabulary development.
  • Facilitate instruction using a variety of texts, including novels, nonfiction, poetry, and informational texts.
  • Incorporate discussion-based learning, writing workshops, and text-dependent analysis to deepen student understanding.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Establish and maintain a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom culture aligned with Atlas values.
  • Implement consistent routines and clear expectations that support student independence and accountability.
  • Build strong relationships with students and families to support academic growth and social-emotional development.
  • Address behavior proactively using restorative and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic needs of middle school learners.
  • Provide targeted support and enrichment through small groups, conferencing, and intervention strategies.
  • Collaborate with special education, intervention, and support staff to ensure all students have access to grade-level content.
  • Collaborate closely with grade-level teammates, instructional coaches, and Deans of Instruction.
  • Participate actively in data meetings, professional development, and instructional planning cycles.
  • Engage in ongoing reflection and professional learning to continuously improve instructional practice.
  • Communicate regularly with families about student progress, expectations, and classroom updates.
  • Contribute positively to the Atlas school culture and community events.
  • Support school-wide initiatives, assessments, and enrichment opportunities as needed.
