About The Position

The Middle School Counselor implements a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with the Arkansas School Counselor Framework and ASCA National Model to support students’ academic, social-emotional, and career development. This role provides direct services including individual and group counseling, classroom instruction, and student advocacy, while collaborating with educators, families, and community partners to remove barriers to learning. The counselor also fulfills essential administrative responsibilities that contribute to student achievement and the effective operation of the school. Direct and indirect services being provided to students, including but not limited to: Individual counseling Small group Counseling Classroom visits/lessons Delivering lessons in areas of academics, personal social, and career development Advocating for all students with teachers, administrators, social workers, homeless liaison, DHS, calling for Mental Health Assessors to provide assessments Referrals to outside agencies as needed Team members of following committees: Student Intervention Team member PLC Team member 504 Team member IEP Team member LPAC Team member GT Team member Crisis Intervention Team School Behavioral Threat Assessment Team Link between student, parent, and community members/Community and Family Engagement New student orientation Administrative duties, including but not limited to: Scheduling of students/schedule changes Entering and Maintaining Master Schedule for school HAC/TAC/Report cards/Progress reports eSchool tasks Sending and requesting Student Transcripts and Records Filing student records SIT Coordinator Answering incoming phone calls and associated tasks Assisting with lunch duty when needed

Requirements

  • Valid Arkansas School Counselor license (K–12)
  • Master’s degree in School Counseling or a related field
  • Knowledge of the Arkansas School Counselor Framework and ASCA National Model
  • Demonstrated ability to provide individual and group counseling services
  • Strong understanding of academic, social-emotional, and career development for middle school students
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, families, and community agencies
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use sound professional judgment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with student support teams (e.g., 504, IEP, RTI/SIT) preferred
  • Experience with student information systems and data tracking preferred
