About The Position

The Odyssey School of Denver is a diverse, K–8 Expeditionary Learning (EL Education) charter school committed to developing students as learners, thinkers, and contributors to a better world. Through rigorous academics, character development, and meaningful real-world experiences, we prepare students for success in high school and beyond. We are seeking a 6th–8th Grade Math Teacher & Crew Leader to join our team. This educator will teach mathematics across three grade levels (6th, 7th, and 8th grade) and lead a crew (advisory) of students, helping to foster a strong culture of belonging, academic growth, and character development. About the Role The Middle School Math Teacher & Crew Lead is responsible for delivering high-quality math instruction aligned to the Illustrative Mathematics curriculum, while also supporting students’ growth through crew, adventure programming, and expeditionary learning experiences. This role includes: Teaching 3 sections of math (6th, 7th, and 8th grade) Leading 1 crew (advisory) of students Supporting student learning through data-driven instruction, small groups, and high-quality tasks Participating in Odyssey’s Adventure Program, including overnight trips

Requirements

  • Must be a self-aware, mission-driven, solutions-oriented, team player looking to become an expert learner.
  • Commitment to outdoor education and adventure programming for students.
  • Certified teacher with 2 or more years of experience leading a middle school classroom.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with EL curriculum or project-based learning is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Build a strong, inclusive crew culture grounded in Odyssey’s Habits of a Learner
  • Serve as the primary advocate for a group of students, supporting their academic and social-emotional growth
  • Facilitate crew structures including goal-setting, reflection, and student-led conferences
  • Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned math instruction across grades 6–8
  • Implement the Illustrative Mathematics curriculum with fidelity while adapting to meet student needs
  • Use data (exit tickets, assessments, student work) to inform instruction and plan targeted small group support
  • Design learning experiences that promote deep thinking, discourse, and problem-solving
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary learning expeditions that connect math to real-world contexts
  • Support students in producing high-quality work that demonstrates mastery, revision, and pride
  • Integrate habits of character and academic skills into daily instruction
  • Build strong relationships with families through regular communication
  • Share student progress, celebrate successes, and partner with families to support growth
  • Collaborate with the Adventure team to plan and participate in: Two overnight crew trips per year Additional fieldwork and adventure experiences
  • Support student safety, engagement, and growth in outdoor and experiential settings
  • Engage actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and data inquiry cycles
  • Participate in professional development, coaching, and collaborative planning
  • Contribute to a positive, mission-aligned staff culture grounded in shared leadership
  • Fulfill all supervisory, meeting, and school responsibilities with professionalism and consistency
