About The Position

The Middle Office Supervisor (Power) will play a crucial role in overseeing activities related to risk management and compliance within the trading environment. This position is based in Houston, Texas, and offers a competitive salary range of $150,000 to $160,000 per year. The supervisor will be responsible for managing and reporting control issues with transparency, ensuring that all trading limits are adhered to, and that control processes and procedures are in place and continuously evolving with the business needs. The role requires a strong focus on the accuracy and completeness of various reports and controls related to regulatory requirements, which are essential for maintaining compliance in the trading sector. In this position, the supervisor will work closely with the Front Office to facilitate the growth of the business by providing accurate information regarding the potential risk impact of transactions. A solid understanding of market structure and key commercial strategies is necessary to lead effective risk analysis that supports informed commercial decision-making. The supervisor will directly oversee risk control analysts in the Middle Office department, managing staffing resources and departmental activities while leading, coaching, and developing the team. Performance appraisals for all direct reports will also be a key responsibility. Collaboration with Back Office, Finance, Credit, Legal, and Internal Control teams is essential to ensure that risk control practices and policies are aligned from a compliance perspective. The supervisor will partner with other leaders to drive operational excellence improvements and liaise with Trading Systems to enhance trading software to meet business needs. Monitoring internal limits for Front Office business and ensuring compliance with these limits is a critical aspect of the role. The supervisor will also analyze non-standard transaction requests and advise senior management accordingly. Additionally, the supervisor will be responsible for developing and implementing Middle Office risk policies, procedures, and initiatives to manage the ongoing growth of the business. Identifying new solutions to improve processes and controls to eliminate risks or gaps is vital. The supervisor will act as the primary liaison for all trading inquiries, assist traders in modeling complex trades, and ensure that all risk controls and reporting required by governmental regulations are performed accurately. Leading the Middle Office team in conducting independent analysis, valuation, and reporting of risk positions and trading results daily is essential, as is ensuring compliance with all trading limits. The supervisor will report trading results and positions to senior management and observe and report operational risk incidents, including near misses and failures. As part of the Global Risk Control team, the supervisor will serve as the North American Power subject matter expert, working closely with related commodity teams.
